Junior Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Wrestling · Indian Wrestlers Take 3rd at Jeff Davis

The Vidalia High School Wrestling team opened their 2020/21 season with a good showing at the 14th Annual Yellow Jacket Duals, held Saturday in Hazlehurst. The Indian grapplers posted a record of 7-2 over the weekend, which was good enough to finish in 3rd place in their division while going against teams from Class 2A to Class 5A.

Junior Hunter Manning led the way for the Indians, going 9-0 with 4 pins and 3 tech falls. With victories over Swainsboro, Dodge Co., Berrien Co., Jones Co., Fitzgerald, Statesboro, and Wayne Co. Vidalia head Coach Bobby Blount say’s that he was pleased with the results of the first match, “I was proud of the effort this weekend with so many young kids,” said Blount. “The veterans went and did their job, and the young ones jumped in and wrestled as hard. They may not have got the results they wanted, but as a whole, everybody fought. I am very pleased with the first tournament results,” Blount added.

The Indians are back in action Saturday, beginning at 9:00 AM when they host the Roll Tribe Duals at the Old VHS Gymnasium.
